The 3rd Annual Southeastern Regional Health Improvement Case Competition allows students who think like innovators to put their education into practice by developing solutions for the Southeast’s most pressing healthcare problems

Welcome to the 2023 Southeastern Regional Health Improvement Case Competition!

As healthcare becomes increasingly shaped by multidisciplinary forces, the modern delivery of care requires a new level of interprofessional collaboration and innovation. You have the exciting opportunity to address a real-world health challenge in the Southeast region by generating actionable solutions through the 2024 Southeastern Regional Health Improvement Case Competition.

This event invites teams of 3-5 members to develop thoughtful solutions to improve the health delivery and care management of the Southeast’s patient populations - and compete for a prize pool of $9,000. You will also be able to meet and engage with some of the nation’s top healthcare and quality improvement leaders.

All undergraduate and graduate students across Georgia’s universities, Duke, Johns Hopkins, and Vanderbilt are welcome to apply.

No prior business or healthcare experience is necessary!

About

The 3rd Annual Southeastern Regional Health Improvement Case Competition is hosted by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Open School Emory Chapter.

The competition was established in 2022 to provide students with the opportunity to better the delivery of healthcare in the Southeast. Our mission is to empower students to generate actionable solutions to real-world problems and increase interprofessional collaboration.

Important Dates

  • Individual or team registration to participate closes on Friday, March 1, 2024 at 11:59pm

    Interested students can register as a team or as an individual. The Case Competition Organizing Committee will place registered individuals on finalized teams.

  • Monday, March 4, 2024

    The Case Competition Planning Committee will assemble and announce finalized teams of 3-5 students. Upon team announcements, the written case prompt will be released.

  • Monday, March 11, 2024 at 11:59pm

    Teams are given one week to research, develop, and submit their first-round proposal.

    The first-round proposal will consist of a 10-12 slide PowerPoint presentation with a supporting 5-8 minute recorded pitch.

  • Monday, March 18, 2023

    The five teams with the highest-scored proposals will be selected as finalists to pitch their presentations in-person.

  • Sunday, March 24, 2024 at 11:59pm

    The final five teams have one week to meet with a subject matter expert (SME) to solicit feedback on their proposal and make edits.

    Final presentations must be submitted on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at 11:59pm.

  • Monday, March 25, 2024

    The top five teams will pitch an in-person 20-minute presentation to the Case Competition Judges followed by a 10-minute Q&A session.

    The Judges will select the three winning teams and present them each with a cash prize.
